frequently asked questions

  • Why agroforestry?

Agroforestry is a solution to so many problems. It’s a way of producing high-quality, diverse foods at a large scale, whilst regenerating landscapes continuously. It is easy to maintain once the system is set up, so the locals can easily replicate it. And most importantly, it thinks of the future as much as the now.

  • Why Namibia?

A country with so much potential, and yet most of population live in poverty. Due to it being an arid country, people are pessimistic about growing food here. Over 70% of produce is imported from other countries, making food prices practically unaffordable when comparing to the living wage. Whilst providing fresh, high-quality produce to the country, we want to show what is possible here.

  • is it climate positive?

Yes - that’s one of Aywa’s main focuses. We believe that sustainability is no longer about doing less harm, it’s about doing more good. Growing food in a sustainable way, regenerating landscapes, and planting an abundance of trees are ways we can mitigate the effects of climate change.

  • can I get involved?

Definitely! For limited time only, we are running a ‘Plant A Tree’ campaign, where you can sponsor a tree that will be planted in our Agroforest. Alternatively, you can sponsor specific areas of the project, or leave one-off donations. Please view our ‘Get Involved’ pages at the top.

  • How does the tree planting work?

For every £30 that is donated to our GoFundMe page, we will plant a fruit tree in our Agroforest and label it with a name of your choice. We’ll add you to our Facebook group, where picture updates of the trees will be shared once a year.

  • can I visit?

Sure! New people are always welcome to see the project. As we’re very busy, please email us with an idea of when you’d like to come. For Work or Volunteer enquiries, please contact us with more information.
