Our First Agroforest Planting at Aywa Forest Farm!
In January of this year, something powerful took root on our land here in the heart of Africa. After months and months of planning, preparing, funding and organising… it was time to plant the first true seeds of change.🌿
What was once a barren, over-farmed, and depleted piece of earth has now become the living beginning of something much greater—a thriving, regenerative food forest that will grow for generations to come.
When we first arrived here in 2022, the land was depleted and dry. Stripped of its trees and tired from years of extraction, it held the scars of deforestation and monoculture. But we saw something else— a space full of potential. We dreamed of a space that would not only grow food but restore ecosystems, uplift communities, and inspire a new way forward.
That dream began to take real form in January 2025, when we completed our first major planting of 2 hectares.
After months of planning, preparing the soil, and sourcing plant material, the big day finally came. With the support of over 50 local community members, volunteers, and friends, we planted:
🌳 3,400 fruit trees
🌿 Over 6,000 supporting and companion trees
Let’s be honest with you, two full weeks under the hot African sun - digging, planting, mulching, and watering - it wasn’t easy work, yet the energy was electric. Every hand in the soil carried a sense of purpose. Every tree planted felt like a victory.
All of our systems are built on regenerative agroforestry principles—organic, chemical-free, and designed to mimic the intelligence of nature. Every tree has a role. Some will feed families, others will nourish the soil, attract pollinators, or provide shade and protection. Together, they create a living system that supports biodiversity, community resilience, and climate adaptation.
Seeing the land now, lined with young trees soaking up the sun, we’re filled with emotion. This is just the beginning, but it’s already a symbol of what’s possible when we work with nature and with each other.
This Agroforest was never just for us. It’s for the people. For the planet. For the future.
And we can’t wait to watch it grow.
Thank you for reading and following along on our adventure.🌿
